A, Large capacity (DVD Copy)
CD and DVD discs and VCD discs are very similar in diameter to 80 or 120mm, thickness 1.2mm, but in fact their very different. DVD can be divided into single layer, single-sided double-layer, double-sided single layer and double-double of four physical structure. Single-sided single layer DVD have a capacity of 4.7GB, while the double-double of the DVD capacity up to 17GB (about 26 times the CD).

B, Nice picture quality (DVD Player Software)
DVD uses the most advanced digital compression technology MPEG ?.
MPEG ?: MPEG ? video data decompress is divided into two steps, first analyse the scene complexity, distribute more bits on the screen that have more details, fewer of assigned bits to less detailed images parts; second Step is to analyse picture frame redundancy between the frame for the painting before and after the effective inter-frame interpolation and predictive coding, a small amount of compensation for the motion part. The use of this technology have greatly improved the clarity of the screen, only a small number of DVD and other AV products or higher products are using this technology. Up to 450-550 lines of horizontal resolution. Far more than 250 lines VCD and SVCD’s 350 line. Resolution up to 720 × 480.

C, excellent sound quality (Video Converter)
DVD support 48kHz ~ 96kHz audio sampling rate, word length available among 16bits, 20bits, 24bits, far better than LD’s 44KHZ. DVD can be suppressed with DOLBY DIGITAL, DTS (DIGITAL THEATER SYSTEM) digital audio signal information. After decoding playback, you can enjoy the thrilling six-channel DOLBY DIGITAL or DTS sound field effect.

What is the Difference between D5/D9/D10/D18/DVD+R/DVD+RW and other DVD discs?

Filed under: Software — Blazevideo @ 10:13 pm

Question has been asked about what is the difference between DVD-5 and DVD-9, DVD+R and DVD RW, etc. Generally speaking, there are 4 different DVD Disc in market now. The most commonly used Disc to save video movies is D9 and D5. And the size of them can be kind of confusing for users.

DVD-5 (Single Side Single Layer)
D5 holds around 4 700 000 000 bytes and that is 4.37 computer GB where 1 kbyte is 1024 bytes* . DVD+R/DVD+RW and DVD-R/DVD-RW support this format. This is the most common DVD Media, often called 4.7 GB Media. A DVD-5 disc will hold nominally 133 minutes of high quality MPEG-2 encoded video, together with three surround-sound audio channels and four subtitle channels. (Without video compression one DVD-5 disc would hold only about 3 minutes of video). (more…)

Why unfinalized disc won’t play on my PC?

Filed under: Software — Blazevideo @ 1:22 am

Most DVD recorders and some DVD players can read unfinalized discs by checking in reverse order from the end of the disc for the most recently recorded directory information.

Most DVD recorders can record a DVD onto DVD-R or DVD+R discs in unfinalized form, where temporary directory information is recorded after the last recorded section instead of at the beginning of the disc in the normal place. (This is sometimes called the TMPVMGI format, after the name for the temporary data.)

This technique allows a write-once disc to be recorded in more than one session, since updated temporary directory information is written after each new recorded area. When a disc is finalized, the directory information is written in the normal place, allowing standard DVD players to recognize and play the disc.
