Latest news from Craig Berger, the FBR Capital analyst, this year Apple is possible to release iPad 2 Plus, which is mainly used to update iPad’s display resolution.
Berger’s news comes from the chip industry, not from Apple directly. Berger writes that he hears Apple could migrate the iPad’s display resolution from a current pixel density of 132ppi to 250-300 ppi for the “iPad 2 Plus”. Before iPad 2 published, iPad fans have been guessed that iPad 2 may have the same screen of iPhone 4 with the same display resolution, which is 326ppi. But they disappointed.
Berger also writes if this device does come out as a high-end iPad for the holidays, then the Q4 production volumes could diminish somewhat as screen constraints again arise as LG and/or Samsung resolution displays right out of the gate.
Berger adds he does not get enough evidences to proof the news that Apple will release iPad 2 Plus this year. If it is true, Apple will release the new iPad 2 Plus before the holidays at the end of 2011. But they may be at limited sales, for it will be big difficulty for screen manufactures to produce large amounts of such high-resolution screens in short time.
He says the whole chip industries are appropriate, and the valuations are attractive. While, for it is uncertain news, we need await more confirming data points from other supply chain contacts before completely believing a new iPad device (iPad 2 Plus) is coming in 2011.
