What is ISDB-T?

Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting- Terrestrial (ISDB-T) integrates multiple types of digital content that may include HDTV, standard definition television (SDTV), sound, graphics, and text, and can be applied to DTT, digital sound broadcasting (DSB), or multimedia services.

ISDB-T is a Japanese invention and is a part of ISDB standards maintained by the Japanese organization called ARIB (Association of Radio Industries and Businesses). It competes with DVB-T, developed by European companies. Another competitor is ATSC, an American invention.

ISDB-T is the least widespread Digital Terrestrial Television standard. Only two countries – Brazil and Japan – have adopted it. However the number of receivers that will get produced will be large due to its selection in Brazil.
